Division 3: Approval of certain health costs

15.5.10 Treatment in a location other than the posting country

Guidance

Example: A person who visits another location overseas for ALT may wish to access health services in the ALT location that are not available in the posting location. The person requires approval before accessing the healthcare service in the ALT location for the payment to be reimbursed.

It is encouraged to have private travel insurance to cover any urgent health care that may arise in the ALT location.

Health care costs incurred in Australia are the person’s responsibility with assistance from Medicare or the person’s private health insurance (if they have it). During a long-term posting overseas, the ADF Family Health Program section 8.9.6A benefit cannot be utilised in Australia.
