Guidance
  1. Executives Level 2/Colonels on long-term postings to representational appointments such as Defence Attache/Adviser are eligible for the Senior accommodation group standard.

  2. The overseas group standards are not linked to those applying to ADF members under the Group Rent Scheme in Australia.

  3. If an employee's family composition is such that it is not possible to obtain accommodation that is both suitable and within the area guidelines, special approval can be sought through post management to enable oversized accommodation to be provided.

  4. Gross area is a combination of the total internal area including corridors, circulation space, cupboards and bathrooms, etc., but excluding external walls, unfinished basements and attics, storage rooms, garages, plant rooms, verandahs, porches, porticos and patios.

  5. At posts where special approval has been given for an employee to employ live-in domestic staff, the additional accommodation requirements for such staff will be assessed on a case-by-case basis by post management.

  6. Family reunion visits are not considered to be justification for the provision of over-guideline accommodation.

  7. Except in these circumstances, no further adjustments of accommodation group benefits are to be made:

    1. Language training postings. The accommodation group of an employee undergoing full-time study or language training overseas is to be Standard. However, in the following cases, the employee will retain the accommodation group specified in the Table, if:

      1. at the completion of the study being undertaken, the employee is to take up a long-term posting at the same location as the course of study; or

      2. approval has been given for the employee to live in the same residence for the whole of the period of study and the period of posting.

    2. Exchange postings. The accommodation group of an employee on exchange posting overseas is to be one group below that which would have applied on a normal posting.
