If a person was recognised as one of the following immediately before 1 July 2023, savings provisions apply to that recognition.

  1. Guardian or housekeeper.

  2. As in an interdependant relationship.

  3. Live-in carer.

Subdivision 1: Accompanied resident family

The approved form for section 1.3.14 is AE681 - ADF Categorisation change and Application to Live In/Live Out.

1.3.15 Effect of temporary separation

Guidance

Example: The person is caring for their parent in the parent's home for a few weeks while the parent recovers from surgery.

Subdivision 2: Types of accompanied resident family

1.3.16 Accompanied resident family - Partner

1.3.17 Accompanied resident family - Child 90+ nights

1.3.18 Accompanied resident family - Child less than 90 nights

1.3.19 Accompanied resident family - Child absent due to education

Guidance

Example: A single parent under subparagraph a.ii whose child is at boarding school because there is no other parent to provide care for them during school term is accompanied resident family.

Categorisation

Guidance

Depending on their family makeup, members will sit under one of the three following categories: Member (MBR), Unaccompanied Resident Family (URF) or Accompanied Resident Family (ARF). Members can ascertain where they sit by mapping their situation to one of the six second level family explanations.

Note: Any member can have Non-Resident Family recognised as these family members do not change which category you sit under.

 

Member (MBR)

Member who has no Resident Family and no Recognised Other Persons

Member who has Recognised Other Persons and no Resident Family

 

Unaccompanied Resident Family (URF)

Member who has Unaccompanied Resident Family and no Accompanied Resident Family or Recognised Other Persons

Member who has Unaccompanied Resident Family and Recognised Other Persons and no Accompanied resident family (Recognised Other Persons must be residing with Unaccompanied Resident Family)

 

Accompanied Resident Family (ARF)

Member who has accompanied Resident Family and no unaccompanied resident family or Recognised Other Persons

Member who has accompanied Resident Family and Recognised Other Persons and no unaccompanied resident family
