15.2.27 Ancillary services

Example: The ADF member’s partner will live with the ADF member at the posting location for 182 days in the financial year. The total threshold in subsection 3 is AUD 897.53.

Notes:

Any ancillary service cost above the annual cap of AUD 1,800 is a personal expense.

Medical goods and services (see Division 4), hospital costs (see Division 5), dental treatment (see Division 7), pharmaceutical products (see Division 8) and other medical services (see Division 9) cannot be claimed as an ancillary service and must be claimed under their respective Divisions.

Services that are reimbursable as an ancillary service are all other services covered by the ADF Family Health Program in Australia (see Part 9 of Chapter 8) and include audiology, dietician, exercise physiology, immunisations, medically prescribed appliances, occupational therapy, optical, osteopathy, physiotherapy, podiatry and chiropody, remedial massage, speech therapy, tobacco and nicotine addiction services and dental (beyond the two dental check-ups provided annually under Division 7).

During a long-term posting overseas, the benefits provided under section 8.9.6A of the ADF Family Health Program cannot be utilised in Australia as the benefit is provided as an ancillary service benefit overseas.
