15.5.13 Hospital costs

Take home medication and out-patient medical treatment are not included as a hospital cost. They may be provided under Division 4 or Division 8.
Costs including TV, phone usage and costs for a spouse or child to stay at the hospital are not included as a hospital cost.
15.5.14 Hospital costs - clinically necessary acute care
Guidance
The following examples are considered clinically necessary acute care:

Treatment for a broken or suspected broken bone.

Acute abdominal pain, chest pain or difficulty breathing.
- Acute allergic reactions.
15.5.15 Other hospital costs
Guidance
An example of what may be considered a hospital cost under section 15.5.5 is an approved surgery required for an injury sustained at post that can’t be delayed until the person returns to Australia in two years’ time.
