15.5.21 Pharmaceutical products
Example: An ADF member is posted to the UK. Their partner who is living with them at the posting location suffers from asthma. The asthma medications cost AUD 35.00 each. The member’s partner is reimbursed AUD 10.00 for each pharmaceutical product.
Example: The ADF member’s partner has paid AUD 35.00 for each of two pharmaceutical products on a weekly basis for this financial year. After 35 weeks, they had paid the threshold amount of AUD 25.00 enough times to total AUD 1,748.20. The two weekly products now have a threshold amount of AUD 7.70 each and the member’s partner is reimbursed AUD 27.30 for each product to make up the difference to AUD 35.00.
The threshold amount is the equivalent of the PBS safety net. If a person is only eligible for health costs under this Part for part of the year, and they provide evidence of how much of the safety net they have used at the time, that will be taken into account.
15.5.22 Pharmaceutical products covered by a health care card
Example: An ADF member is posted to the UK. Their child who is living with them at the posting location has diabetes and requires insulin. The insulin medications cost AUD 45.00 each. The member is reimbursed AUD 37.30 for each pharmaceutical product they purchase for their child.
Example: An ADF member has paid AUD 45.00 for a single pharmaceutical product on a weekly basis in this financial year for their child. After 36 weeks, they had paid the threshold amount of AUD 7.70 enough times to total AUD 277.20. The weekly product now has a threshold amount of zero which means there is no out of pocket cost to the member for the pharmaceutical product they purchase for their child until the next financial year.
