This Division describes the conditions of service for a member before deployment for service on non-warlike operations for six months or longer.

Dependants may choose to remain at the posting location during the member's deployment. The member's housing assistance remains at the posting location.

1. A person listed in the table below may grant help with travel on removal of the member's dependants to a location where extended family support is available. Approval may only be given if a person listed in the table below is satisfied that both these conditions are met.

   1. There is a compelling need for the member's dependants to access family support.

   2. The need must be for a significant amount of the member's absence.

2. A person listed below may grant the member travel before the deployment, and again on return. The travel must be to the location where family support is available.

3. A member may be given help with travel on a removal only once for each deployment.

4. The location of the family support would usually be within Australia. A member may request removal to family support in an overseas location. If the removal is granted, help is limited to travel between the home and the airport. The airport must be the Australian international terminal that is nearest the member's posting location that has flights to the overseas location.

5. Help with relocation takes one of these three forms.

1. A member or their dependants may apply for the dependants to travel at Commonwealth expense, to move from their home to a personal location where family support is provided.

2. The member or dependants may apply for these removal benefits to assist with the move.

   1. Full removal of personal effects at Commonwealth expense.

   2. Limited removal of one motor vehicle at Commonwealth expense.

3. Housing assistance will continue to be given in the posting location.

   1. If the member has a Service residence, the member may keep it while the dependants are away. Contribution arrangements do not change.

   2. A member who is getting rent allowance may continue to be paid it while the dependants are away. Contribution arrangements do not change.

4. Housing assistance may be given in the personal location.

   Note: The member should check with their insurance company to ensure they have adequate cover while they are away.

   1. Housing is not available if the member keeps the housing at the posting location.

   2. When the member returns from deployment, housing assistance continues to be provided in the personal location if the member has less than six months to serve in their posting location.

5. Dependants may also be moved to the member's posting location, if they choose to return.

   Note: The member's posting location may have changed.

6. Disturbance allowance is not payable.

7. The member or their dependants may apply for the extended family of the member or dependants to travel at Commonwealth expense when all these conditions are met.

   1. The extended family member's travel is from their home location to where the dependants are living and return.

   2. The purpose of the extended family member's travel is to give family support to the member's dependants.

   3. The extended family member will stay with the dependants for a significant period of the member's deployment.

8. For subsection 7, the Commonwealth will pay the cost of travel for the extended family members, up to the amount of normal Departmental liability for travel by two extended family members from their home to the location where the member's dependants live.

1. Dependants may be moved to a location where extended family support is available.

2. The dependants' personal effects and one private vehicle may also be moved. Other household contents are excluded from personal effects.

3. Other household contents that were not moved will be stored at Commonwealth expense.

4. Housing assistance is transferred to the new location. If the member has a suitable home at the location, the dependants are expected to occupy that home. This is unless a leasing agreement made before the deployment prevents them from moving into the home. In that case, a person listed below may approve housing assistance.

5. Members should not assume the same housing would be allocated on their return.

6. Dependants will also be moved back to the posting location.

7. Members are eligible for storage costs for one vehicle and one towable item. Members may sell them instead and seek repayment for loss on sale.

8. Travel to the new location and return count as one complete removal for disturbance allowance purposes.

1. A full removal may be granted to a location where extended family support is available. In that case, a person listed in the table below may approve removal assistance.

2. Housing assistance is transferred to the new location. If a member has a suitable home at the new location, the dependants are expected to occupy that home. This is unless a leasing agreement made before the deployment prevents them from moving into the home.

3. A second full removal may be granted, to the member's posting location. This will usually be taken on the member's return.

4. Members are eligible for storage costs for one vehicle and one towable item. Members may sell them instead and claim repayment for loss on sale.

5. Removal to the new location and return count as two complete removals for disturbance allowance purposes.

1. A single-parent member with dependants who is deployed receives help with the following.

   1. Travel of children to an appropriate location for extended family support.

   2. Removal of furniture and/or effects to storage.

   3. Storage or loss on sale of motor vehicle and towable items.

2. The location of the family support would usually be within Australia. A member may request removal to family support in an overseas location. If the removal is granted, help is limited to travel between the home and the airport. The airport must be the Australian international terminal that is nearest the member's posting location that has flights to the overseas location. Other removal entitlements apply.

1. If both parents are ADF members and are deployed at the same time, they receive help with the following.

   1. Travel of children to an appropriate location for extended family support.

   2. Removal of furniture and/or effects to storage.

   3. Storage or loss on sale of motor vehicle and towable items.

2. The location of the family support would usually be within Australia. A member may request removal to family support in an overseas location. If the removal is granted, help is limited to travel between the home and the airport. The airport must be the Australian international terminal that is nearest the member's posting location that has flights to the overseas location. Other removal entitlements apply.

1. This section applies to a member who meets all of the following conditions.

   1. The member is living in.

   2. The member is deployed for service on a non-warlike deployment for six months or longer.

   3. The member meets either of the following conditions.

      1. The member is a member without dependants.

      2. The member is a member with dependants (unaccompanied).

2. The member may access the benefits referred to in the following table.

1. This section applies to a member who meets all the following conditions.

   1. The member is living out.

   2. The member is deployed for service on a non-warlike deployment for six months or longer.

   3. The member meets either of the following conditions.

      1. The member is a member without dependants.

      2. The member is a member with dependants (unaccompanied).

2. The member may access the benefits referred to in the following table.

Pre-deployment leave and travel may be available. This is dependent upon unit operational circumstances.

A member is not eligible for equipment costs while on deployment.
