Recreation leave

How recreation leave works

Leave at half pay

You can’t take less than 7 calendar days of recreation leave at half pay.

Example

You’re a SERCAT 7 member and you take 14 days of recreation leave at half pay. These 14 days include 2 weekends.

Your salary is reduced by 50% and your leave balance is reduced by 5 days.

Example

You’re a SERCAT 6 member and you normally work 6 days over a 14-day period. You take 14 days recreation leave at half pay. These 14 days include 2 weekends. Your salary is reduced by 50%. Your recreation leave balance is reduced by 3 days.

Purchasing leave

Example

You wish to purchase 10 days of leave and pay it back over 13 pay periods.

(10 × 8) = 80

80 ÷ 13 = 6.15

You’ll be credited 6.15 hours of leave each fortnight for 13 fortnights.

Example

You’re a FLTLT earning $110,583 a year. You want to purchase 10 days of leave using the credit in advance method  and pay it back over 13 pay periods

On your first pay day after the purchase is approved, you:

  • receive the 10 days of recreation leave you purchased
  • have $233.05 ((110583 ÷ 365 ×  10) ÷ 13) deducted from your salary. This amount is deducted over 13 pay periods in total.

Transferring leave if you’re a Service couple

Before you purchase extra leave, you should discuss it with your supervisor.
