Eligibility

When you stay in living-in accommodation (LIA)

You may get meal allowance for lunch if your normal place of duty is in a capital city and a meal isn’t provided.

When you live out

When you perform extra duty

When your rostered duty changes

When you can't go home for lunch

When you're not eligible

Example

You're on a watch keeper's shift. It's normally a 12-hour shift.

You know this in advance because of the unit routine instructions.

This is considered a normal working day for this duty and not unexpected so you wouldn’t receive meal allowance for this shift.

An in-flight meal on a commercial aircraft isn't counted a meal. You can still get meal allowance if you get an in-flight meal.
