You can’t start making up your contributions until after you return to work. 

You won’t be able to make up the contributions to your member benefit if you take LWOP to study, train or participate in any activity that isn’t relevant to Defence requirements, or where Defence has not agreed to continue employer contributions.

Before making any decisions about your super, you should seek independent financial advice.

LWOP may also affect your eligibility for other Defence benefits such as long service leave, continuation bonus, and housing assistance.
