Hardship location grades and benefits

If you’re in a location graded A or B, you won’t get location allowance or additional leave days.

Location allowance

If you need to leave your posting location for more than 28 days, you need to inform your Commanding Officer and your OAT Case Manager before you leave or within 14 days of leaving your posting location.

Leave while in a hardship location

Example

You’re posted to Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands for 24 months. The ordinary posting period for the Solomon Islands is 24 months (Column 2). You’ll be able to take 4 assisted leave trips:

  • 1 trip to your regional relief centre (the capital city in Australia with the lowest allowable travel cost other than Hobart or Darwin)
  • 3 trips to your relief leave centre, Brisbane.

The usual interval between your trips is 4.8 months.

At least one of your additional leave trips must be to a regional leave centre.
