This month, Defence introduced 6 changes to give you and your family more flexibility and choice when using Remote Location Leave Travel (RLLT) benefits.
RLLT supports you and your family while living in a remote location and enables close family members to visit you and any resident family living with you.
These updates give you more options for planning and booking travel and help ensure RLLT continues to meet your needs.
Changes to Schemes A & B
Use RLLT during stand down
You can now use your RLLT benefit during the Christmas stand-down period without having to take leave.
Transfer a child’s benefit
You can transfer your accompanied child’s RLLT benefit to a close family member so they can visit you and your family in the remote location.
Updates to holiday packages under Scheme A
Defence has introduced the following improvements to RLLT:
Simpler holiday package costs
We’ve made it easier for you to work out how holiday package costs are assessed under Scheme A.
When you book a holiday package, Defence now compares 2 amounts and pays the lower of:
- the actual cost paid the member paid, and
- the normal departmental liability.
This replaces the previous three‑way comparison process.
More flexibility and booking options
You now have more flexibility and choice when booking holiday packages, making it easier to find value for money.
Holiday packages can be booked to any destination, including the capital city closest to your housing benefit location.
You can also book through a wider range of accredited travel agents, including online agents.
Easier cost reimbursement
If you use Scheme A and offset with a holiday package, Defence can now reimburse your accommodation and travel costs using an itemised invoice.
