Travel for specialist treatment when your resident family live in a remote location

This benefit may also be called specialist medical or dental treatment for resident family in remote locations.

When your family member is eligible

Who may travel

Example

Your partner and child both live with you in a remote location.

Your partner needs specialist dental treatment that can’t be provided in the remote location.

Your partner has been approved to travel to a different location to get the necessary treatment, and has been approved to take a support person with them.

You are approved to go with them as their support person. As there are no other family members in the remote location who can look after your child, your child is also eligible for travel.

What Defence may pay for

Example

Your partner needs specialist dental care and has been approved to travel outside of the remote location to get this care.

You travel with your partner as their support person.

Your partner may be eligible for vehicle allowance. You will not be eligible for the allowance.
