Defence is increasing the amount of paid maternity and paid parental leave for ADF members, starting 13 February 2025. Paid parental leave is increasing from 20 days to 40 days.

When you can get parental leave

Members who are pregnant can also take maternity leave before and after their baby is born.

When your parental leave starts

How much parental leave you can get

If you’re on a flexible service determination, (SERCAT 6) you only need leave for the days you normally work.

Unpaid parental leave

Defence won't contribute to your superannuation while you're on unpaid parental leave, but you may be able to make your own contributions, during your leave or after you return to work. Check with your super fund.
