Understanding family categorisations

Your family

Resident family

Example

Your partner lives with you when you get a posting order to a new location.

You move to the new location, but your partner doesn't move with you.

They are still your resident family.

Usually, your family needs to have previously been your accompanied resident family before they can be approved as your unaccompanied resident family.

Non-resident family

You can have non-resident family and resident family at the same time.

Recognised other person

Changes to your recognised family

If you’re adding a new partner, you’ll need to have your relationship recognised before you can add them as recognised family.
