Defence offers financial assistance to help members buy and sell a home.

The Home Purchase Assistance Scheme (HPAS) is a one-off payment to help buy a home in your current or next housing benefit or family benefit location.

The Home Purchase or Sale Expenses Allowance (HPSEA) is a reimbursement for some costs related to selling a home as well as buying another.

HPAS and HPSEA work together on a buy-sell-buy cycle.

You may use HPAS to help you with the costs of purchasing a house in your current housing benefit or family benefit location, provided you meet the eligibility criteria.

When you move to your next posting location, you may use HPSEA to help with some of the costs associated with selling the house in your old location, and with purchasing a house in your new location, provided you meet the eligibility criteria.

1. You use HPAS to buy a house in your posting location, if you meet the eligibility criteria. 2. You get a posting order and then move to your new primary service location. 3. You use HPSEA to sell the house in your old location, if you meet the eligibility criteria. 4. You use HPSEA to buy a house in your new location, if you meet the eligibility criteria

The Defence Home Ownership Assistance Scheme is a scheme to help eligible members of the ADF, including former members, with the cost of their mortgages.

Once you get assistance to buy a home in your housing benefit location or family benefit location, you won't be eligible for any other housing assistance in that location while it's a suitable own home.

In specific circumstances you may be able to keep your current housing assistance until the end of your posting.
