How Defence will pay you

Before making any decision, Defence strongly advises that you speak with your super fund and seek independent financial advice, as bonus payments are considered salary and may impact superannuation limits, HECS repayments, government benefits such as family assistance or childcare subsidies, and child support.

When you may need to repay the bonus

If you’re discharged due to redundancy, or because you have been determined medically unfit (J5), you won’t be required to repay the bonus payments you’ve received
